Welcome to the newly created music technology blog at Milwood Magnet School: A Center for Math, Science and Technology. The use of technology is one of the strongest trends in the music industry today. Students at Milwood Magnet School are getting hands-on experience with MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), the same system professional composers and arrangers use to make music with computers and synthesizers.
Milwood’s Music Technology Lab has Macintosh computers outfitted with GarageBand, a software program that allows students to have a complete orchestra at their disposal. Every player in the virtual orchestra can play any one of several hundred instruments. The student can record multiple parts separately and have them all play back simultaneously. Additional software synthesizers add hundreds more instruments to the palette. GarageBand also allows use of live audio such as voice or acoustic instruments and hundreds of pre-made loops upon which one can build. An audio system is available to play their files out loud. Students will eventually burn CDs to take home.
This will be a creative and exciting year!
